This is an exciting day for me. My own homemade almond butter! I have been wanting to make homemade almond butter (or any kind of nut butter) for about a year and today it finally worked! It’s not hard to make, but you definitely need a nice food processor, and up until last week I didn’t have one (thanks mom!).
To make your own almond butter all you need is salt and almonds! You don’t need to add any additional oil since the almond’s natural oils will come out as you blend them. I bought a 1 lb bag of organic raw almonds from the grocery store, roasted them for 2 hours, added them to my food processor and 5 minutes later I had a jar of warm, silky smooth almond butter. Heaven.
After about 1 minute. You may need to scrape down the sides at this point.
After another minute or so a ball of almond butter starts to form.
After 2 more minutes…almond butter!
Pour the almond butter into a small glass jar, let cool if your almonds were warm, and seal and refrigerate. 1 lb of almonds made 16 oz of almond butter.
This is definitely something you can play around with. More or less salt, honey or coconut sugar for sweetness, cocoa powder for a rich dark chocolate almond butter…the options are really endless. Enjoy:)
