It’s almost the weekend! Mitch is home sick with me today 🙁 so it already feels like the weekend over here since I have some company. Did you guys know it’s National Black Dog Day? I love National Days (so many) that help spread awareness, especially for shelter animals. Adopt! If you have a black dog, give them a nice hug.
So, these ribs. One of the easiest and tastiest things to come out of my kitchen in a while. I was going to try a slow baked rib recipe until my friend told me she has been crock-potting ribs lately. Easier was appealing so I went for it and they did not disappoint! You can season the ribs with anything you want, but I just kept it simple and used salt, pepper and garlic powder before putting them in the crock pot. 8 hours later and your house smells amazing and all you need to do is sauce and broil them.
I got my ribs at Whole Foods. I love buying meat from there because I know they care about where the meat is coming from and the treatment of the animal. Some, if not most of it, is local and they rate their meat on a 1-5 scale depending on how the animals were treated (living conditions, type of feed). The meat is probably pricier, but for me it’s worth it. Here are the ribs after I seasoned them. YUM.
And after 8 hours in the crock pot.
And after saucing and broiling. Only half of ours got sauced because Mitch didn’t want any. I’ll never understand not wanting more BBQ. Try to find a sauce without high fructose corn syrup. It can be hard to find , but they exist!
I used to always consider ribs a treat, but not so much after I discovered how easy they are in the crock pot. We’ve actually had them every week since. I hope you and your family enjoy this easy meal!
- 1 1/2 lb rack of baby back ribs
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 c BBQ sauce of choice - preferrably one without high fructose corn syrup
- Cut your rack of ribs in half so that it can fit into the crock pot
- Season both sides with salt, pepper and garlic powder
- Lay meat-side down into the crock pot and let cook on low for 8 hours
- Before you eat the ribs, turn your oven's broiler on
- Slather the ribs with your BBQ sauce and place in the broiler for 5 minutes
- Enjoy!
