I try to make a smoothie every day. It’s the perfect way to incorporate more greens into my day and get a lot of vitamins and minerals when I don’t really want to make a salad. I tend to use the same green smoothie recipe all the time but lately I’ve been adding raw cocoa powder and it’s amazinggg. Not only does raw cocoa make the entire thing taste chocolately, but it’s high in magnesium, fiber and iron. Chocolate is indeed a health food!
This smoothie is deemed a superfood because it’s loaded with antioxidants from the organic berries, mixed greens, chia seeds, hemp hearts and cocoa powder. It also tastes amazing and gives me such a great healthy fat and protein boost whenever I make it. If you’re having a hard time getting your kiddos on board with green smoothies, this is the perfect recipe for them because it comes out looking chocolatey and tastes kid-friendly too.
Enjoy this refreshing, healthy smoothie!
- 1/4 frozen or fresh banana
- 1/2 cup frozen mixed berries
- 1 large handful leafy greens (mixed greens, spinach, kale)
- 1 1/2 cups coconut or almond milk - unsweetened
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 tbsp hemp hearts
- 1 tbsp raw cocoa powder
- 1-2 tbsp collagen protein or protein powder of choice - omit for a vegan option and add 3 or 4 tbsp hemp hearts instead
- 4-5 ice cubes
- In a blender, add all ingredients and blend until smooth
- Garnish with more hemp seeds and chia seeds
