I feel like these acai bowls are so trendy right now. I’ve been seeing them everywhere lately but really never gave them much thought until one of my best friends started sending me pics of her different bowls she would create every morning. She described it as a zero sugar fro-yo that sort of tasted like dark chocolate but was actually pureed berries – I was obviously sold and couldn’t stop thinking about these things.
So off to the store I went and made my first one. The photo above is now my 4th bowl and I love them. All you do is add one “smoothie pack” (my bag came with 4) to a blender with some milk of your choice and fruit of your choice (adding additional fruit is up to you). I’ve been adding 1/2 of a banana to mine to make it creamier.
Once your acai puree is done, pour it into a bowl and add whatever toppings you like. I’ve been adding chia seeds, the other 1/2 of my banana, fresh strawberries, unsweetened coconut, hemp hearts for protein and other nuts and seeds I have around. My favorite ingredient is a huge spoon of almond butter. Here are the nutrition facts – I was surprised that this wasn’t just a huge bowl of sugar.
Play around with them – they’re so versatile. Adding dark chocolate and almond butter would make an awesome dessert too. Enjoy:)
- 1 acai berry packet - I used Sambozan Unsweetened Smoothie Packs
- 1/2 banana - for the acai berry puree
- 1/4 c milk
- 4 strawberries - sliced
- 1/2 banana - sliced
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 2 tbsp almond butter
- 1 tsp hemp hearts
- 1 tsp pumpkin seeds
- Run the smoothie packet under warm water for 10 seconds so it will slide out of the packet
- Add the smoothie packet, milk and banana into a blender and mix until smoooth
- Pour the acai mixture into a bowl and add any additional toppings you would like
