Hi all! Happy Thursday! Last week at this time I was in Houston getting ready to board a plane to Ohio, and today I’m sitting in my parents kitchen. It’s been such a fun week in Ohio seeing family and friends that I don’t get to see that often, and I don’t want to leave (although I do miss Mitch! he gets in tonight around midnight). Today is also the start of my best friend’s wedding weekend and I couldn’t be more excited for her. Practicing my MOH speech is on my agenda this morning, then I’m off to meet everyone for nails and the rehearsal. I’ll post some pics next week!
In terms of the twins this week, it’s been rather uneventful which has been SO nice. The heartburn is essentially gone, which means my nausea at night has gotten considerably better too. Most people complain of heartburn later on in their pregnancies, so it’s interesting to me that mine was so bad in the first trimester. I have a feeling it’ll return down the road, but right now it’s so nice not worrying about it before bed. The only thing that’s been different this week are these weird red dots/small spots on my face that I keep waking up with in the morning. They’re mainly on my cheeks, and it makes me think I am getting “pregnancy mask” really early on, but normally that’s more of a brown tint…so I don’t know. It basically looks like my complexion is really uneven, and then fades throughout the day. Pretty weird!
Week 16
The twins: babies are the size of avocados, weighing in at 3.5oz each (they grew an entire ounce since last week which I think is crazy)
Craving: Since I’ve been at my parents and I feel like I’m on vacation, my cravings are definitely a little different this week. I’m still loving whole milk, whole milk yogurt, peaches and nectarines, but I am starting to crave salads. This is a nice change since I couldn’t really think of lettuce or greens in the beginning. I can’t really say this is a true aversion, but pizza is hard for me to eat. This is really weird for me because pizza is probably my favorite food, but it just doesn’t do it for me right now. This hasn’t stopped me from eating it twice, but it’s almost like I don’t enjoy it when I eat it. This is really weird for me. Also, I thought I would be eating Graeter’s Black Raspberry Chip ice cream nightly while home (my mom has two pints in the freezer for me) but it doesn’t sound as good as I was thinking it would. This is a blessing I guess, but a strange one.
Wearing: I am still wearing my normal clothes, but they’re getting a little more uncomfortable. I had to unbutton my jean shorts the other day in the car because they got so tight. All of my workout leggings are also pretty snug, but they’re stretchy enough to last me a while longer. Since being home I’ve been on a shopping frenzy and found a lot of great maternity (and non-maternity) clothes at Old Navy. It’s hard to pass up when everything is basically $10. As I start wearing more of it, I will take pics and share. One of my best friends also got me some maternity jeans, a tank, a shirt and a belly band! so I can keep wearing those jean shorts 😉
Sleeping: Sleeping is good. I am SO tired at night and fall asleep in about 30 seconds, but I’ve been waking up more than usual to go to the bathroom. I’ve definitely had to pee a lot more this week – I can only imagine what it will be like in a few weeks. Other than that, sleep is still great and I am getting a lot of it!
Names: My mom has LOVED talking about names this week, but I am not into it yet. Seems overwhelming to me, and I know we have a ton of time left to think about it. I also think we decided to keep the names a secret until they’re born. ALSO there is an app called BabyName that is essentially like Tinder that I got this week. Mitch can use it too, and if we both swipe right on a name, it’s a match and we can see what the name is. I met Mitch before the Tinder era, so I’m glad I can be included now 😉 Mitch also informed me he likes the name Rex yesterday…he has some interesting picks.
The Bump: A little bigger this week! I definitely feel like I am getting bigger, but still enjoying these days of fitting into my normal clothes. I have a feeling in the next couple of weeks I will see a big change and will be super happy I got all these maternity clothes. I also need to go to h&m because this dress I’m wearing in this picture is one my favorites, and is SO comfy. I wear it all the time.
Exercise: Better this week! I got a pass to Lifetime Fitness, where I used to workout when I lived here, and it has felt amazing. I’ve only gone twice, but both times I’ve walked 2 miles on the treadmill at a 3.5 incline and 4.0 mph. I always thought I would be so bored walking on a treadmill since I am used to running, but it’s actually kind of challenging and I am really sweaty at the end. After I walk I’ve been lifting 5lb dumbbells and doing some squats, then I stretch. I actually made up this weird arm move the other day, sort of like I am punching diagonally, and I think there’s a reason I’ve never done this “move” before because I am SO sore, and not in a good way. Sorry shoulders! I will say, working out makes me noticeably more tired throughout the day, so I think every other day is what I will stick to. I was going to go today, but with all of Jessie’s wedding festivities today and tonight, I don’t want to be a zombie.
Baby purchases: Still none, but my sister in law and brother got us the cutest little twins outfits. I also removed a few items from my registry that I don’t think we really need. Like a wipe warmer, and a baby bath. I know some people swear by these things, but we will toughen up the twins with a regular bath in the bathtub and cold wipes 😉
Nursery: I’ve been giving this a little more thought, but not much. I went to one of my friends houses yesterday to meet her new little baby and loved her nursery. It made me a little sad that we won’t have one, BUT I got some cute ideas for our guest room/nursery. Like a book wall, and I loved her crib that’s from Target. It’s a little more expensive than Ikea, but I think it will be worth it. Can’t wait to show you what we do when we start!
Supplements: Same as last week except I keep forgetting to take a probiotic
What’s next: An appointment at the OB next week (I can give you a very accurate weight update after this apt), and then our high risk Dr. apt on 7/5 where I think we will be able to confirm the genders. !!
Weight Gain: Haven’t weight myself this week, but I will right now… According to my parent’s scale, I’m 132, which means I am up 1 lb since last week. It’s probably not accurate since I never use this scale, but who knows. I don’t have the best appetite when it comes to dinner time, so I need to step this up and I think that will help a lot. I also need to start tracking protein. My goal is to be eating 100-120 grams/day, but I don’t think I am near this number.
Any worries? It has been amazing being away from the Houston swamp this week because I haven’t seen ONE mosquito, which means I haven’t been worried about Zika. Something that’s in the back of my mind is Gestational Diabetes. I have had some trouble stabilizing my blood sugar in the past, so I worry that my risk is slightly increased because of that. I also know that my risk is increased because I am having twins, so we will see! Cutting back on sugar and carbohydrates will help, but that’s hard at times. I believe I take the test at 28 weeks, so I have a ways to go before I find anything out.
